RESEARCH MANAGER

The Research Manager is responsible for comprehensive research and project support. Responsibilities include maintaining databases, collaborating with Project Managers and external allies, conducting in-depth research, and supporting marketing and outreach efforts.

Research – 75%

  • Gather and compile accurate data for diverse requests, including demographics, workforce, logistics, and education.
  • Conduct research, promptly complete RFIs, and submit sites/buildings in response to inquiries.
  • Maintain digital databases of industrial and office sites.
  • Utilize online tools and software for decision-making and information product creation.
  • Employ GIS/mapping tools to fulfill project-related map requests.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze key community and state data for accurate reporting.
  • Stay informed about major economic and market conditions; Respond to requests for information on county market trends.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports tracking project activity and business climate.
  • Lead the community Cost of Living data collection once annually.
  • Complete site readiness questionnaires as directed.
  • Facilitate and provide leadership for quarterly research manager meetings.
  • Secure and manage interns to support research efforts, as needed
  • Proactively identify areas requiring research assistance, design data collection methods, and analyze results.
  • Stay current with vital technologies for decision-making and RFI responses.

Project Assistance – 20%

  • Collaborate with Project Managers on economic development initiatives, providing technical and professional support.

Other Non-Core Responsibilities – 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist other staff members as needed.
  • Provide technical and professional advice.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • More than two years relevant experience or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, data analytics, economics, marketing, planning, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in economic/demographic analysis and applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of economic, demographic, and geographic databases and applications including all computer hardware and software.
  • Thorough knowledge of planning programs and processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of personal computers and applications to include CoStar, Word, Excel, ArcGIS Pro or other GIS software.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; including proofreading and report preparation skills, and public speaking.
  • Ability to interact diverse personalities to include executives, industry officials, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees and the general public with diverse personalities on a regular basis.
  • Aptitude to learn unfamiliar concepts and topics, including internal/ external software applications.
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed, with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills (record keeping, time management, follow up, etc.) with ability to prioritize and manage task in an efficient manner; recognizes, clarifies and prioritizes concerns.
  • Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency, ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality and accuracy of work.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with interruptions while meeting timely deadlines.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage day-to-day tasks in an efficient manner; recognizes, clarifies and prioritizes concerns.
  • Ability to handle confidential and financial information appropriately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ethical standards; ability to create trust and integrity with co-workers and community.
  • Personal attributes that include reliability, professionalism, ability to work independently, positive attitude, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to operate various office equipment including but not limited to copier, scanner, calculator, phone, copy and fax machine.
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
  • Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, speak and hearing abilities, color perception.
  • Some outdoor work may be required to attend events.
  • Regular and sustained attendance and punctuality.
